#Covid19UK – Planning for Positive Change as a UK Micro Business Owner – Part 1

Beyond #Covid19
Planning for Business Continuity

In March 2020, employed and business owners were all affected by #Covid19 in the #UK. The subsequent indication of the severity was beyond comprehension for business health and personal health. Micro businesses like mine could end up being extinct if no immediate action was taken.

What about the current health of the business?

For business health it meant taking immediate action. Suspending trading and ensure continuity for the future. The only way to keep motivated was to stick to a routine. Seeking out a solution for the business. Thus, to return with a different operating model. This was going to be a journey with amazing professional people involved along the way.

What about the wellbeing of the business owner?

But for personal health, it meant me, as an employed business owner ceasing work immediately with a much respected client (I was upset for letting him down and the principal customer involved) as I was to become part of the #NHS shielding programme. I am now 60 and in my 30’s I was diagnosed with Arthritis and the medical treatment means that my immune system is compromised or non-existent. Therefore, with my Diabetes it was a no brainer that I had to stop undertaking 1-2-1 and classroom training. Was I frustrated? Sure I was. Was I going to sit back and give up? No

What about the Future Health of the business?

Well, as the business owner it also means understanding my current skill sets and what has to change in a positive way to satisfy the clients or customers expectations going forward. It certainly means knowing The Why by Simon Sinek. Also, understanding the customer persona and undertaking the proper detailed research. In addition what are going to be the key business tools and the marketing solutions that will be needed to make this a success?

The importance of using a specific business network

Any business owner will seek out like minded business people for advice, support and most importantly giving back to help others with your knowledge and experience as part of that community. Small business owners, who are in a niche need to seek out and understand their audience and for me since 2019 I have been made to feel so welcome in a specific professional trainers community by the name of:

#TrainerTalk from Sharon Gaskin of The Trainers Training Company

However, other business network have been so important in supporting small to medium size businesses virtually during this period and each individual business owner will find the one that is comfortable for them.
